The Grow Solar Jobs Initiative supports the growth of the Appalachian solar industry by facilitating professional training for job-seekers intending to advance their professional careers in the solar field. According to the 2018 Ohio Solar Jobs Census, Ohio’s solar workforce grew in 2018 to reach over 7,000 jobs, making the state the seventh highest solar jobs supporters nationwide. Ohio has an abundant solar resource and huge potential for future growth.
In 2020, the Grow Solar Jobs Initiative will support five individuals in training and engagement in the solar industry. Each solar trainee will complete online coursework through Solar Energy International (SEI)and attend two in-person training and networking events with local solar installers. Technical assistance and support will be provided by Rural Action all along the way. The Grow Solar Jobs Initiative will track its impact through developing relationships and staying in touch with trainees as they advance their careers.
