The SFF works by providing grants and technical assistance to unlock the economic development potential of otherwise viable solar projects that face barriers unique to Central Appalachia. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, public entities and local businesses that serve as community anchors. Rural Action works with SFF to identify projects and supports applicants considering SFF funding.
The SFF is supported by the Appalachian Regional Commission’s POWER Initiative.
