Rural Action’s Appalachian Ohio Restore Corps boasts five work crews to address seasonal project needs and provide a pathway to service for those seeking a short-term experience. Each cohort is made up of 3-5 people serving alongside each other for 9-weeks up to 6 months to provide the boots-on-the-ground needs for Rural Action programs and community partners.

6-9 Month Experiences

Zero Waste Cohort

Serve with Zero Waste to help with hard to recycling materials collection events; UpCycle Ohio to process donations and help items find their forever homes; and the Makerspace to maintain workshop spaces and participate in skill-building classes.

Term Date: March 2023

675 hours of service over 6 – 9 months (part-time or full-time)

Serve with the Appalachian Accessible Food Network to assist with food processing, provide community & school garden maintenance, support the Chesterhill Produce Auction, and more.

[Filled for 23] Dawes Arboretum EE Cohort – Licking

Help with outdoor educational events, summer day camps, and community plant conservation education with the Dawes Arboretum in Newark, Ohio! 2 members will serve a summer term, in partnership with the Learning and Engagement Coordinator.

[Filled for 23] Hague Nature Preserve – Fairfield

Serve in Fairfield County with the Hague Foundation at a NEW preserve systems! This member will help with conservation projects including tree plantings, invasive species removal and monitoring, trail building, and more.

Conservation Cohort – Tuscarawas

Serve with the Muskingum Valley Conservancy District in Tuscarawas County and work alongside the forestry and survey crews to help with conservation projects including tree plantings, water monitoring, trail building, and more.

[Filled for 23] Vinton SWCD AmeriCorps – Vinton

Serve with the Vinton Soil and Water Conservation District (based in McArthur) for this summer term! This member will help with conservation projects including tree plantings and distribution networks, invasive species removal and monitoring, erosion control, sustainable forestry, trail building, and more.

COAD Energy Cohort – Muskingum

Serve with the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD) to receive Electric Partnership Plan (EPP) training and support COAD’s initiatives to help low-income homeowners, while taking an important step to employability by community action agencies.

Shawnee Trail Town AmeriCorps- Perry

Serve in Southern Perry County with the Tecumseh Theater Youth programs and Shawnee Trail Town Network (TTN)! This member will help connect youth to their natural environment and regional histories while providing support to the TTN. Member will be in charge of social media, ongoing events calendar, and involvement building collaborative ventures. Will act as Assistant to the Director of Counselor In Training (CIT) and Outdoor Adventure Guides programs.

Environmental Education Cohort

Serve with the Rural Action Environmental Education team to assist with community education efforts, summer youth camps, citizen science initiatives, and more.

Serve with the Rural Action programs and partner sites to provide support for agroforestry project implementation, waterway clean up, tree planting maintenance, trail maintenance, and more.
