Wayne National Forest Proposes Changing Name to Buckeye National Forest
The US Forest Service is proposing to change the name of the Wayne National Forest to the Buckeye National Forest. The effort comes in response to requests from American Indian Tribes and local community members. We are grateful for the intention and thoughtfulness going into this process, and for the Forest Service’s recognition of the importance of responding to the concerns of the people that stewarded this land historically. As an organization that engages in place-based economic development, we hope the proposed name will help people think of Ohio when they hear it, which could help boost the outdoor recreation economy of our region.
The Forest Service is seeking public engagement on the proposed name change. See the press release to find out how to join the conversation and learn more about the significance of the change and the importance of our national forests!
