Photo of SOPEC staffThe Sustainable Ohio Public Energy Council (SOPEC) is the latest organization to take Rural Action’s Zero Waste Pledge.

Since 2014, it has been SOPEC’s mission to use the power of bulk-buying to purchase electricity that they can then offer to customers in their member communities at prices that compete with the electric utility’s standard offer. Along with rate benefits, SOPEC’s Community Choice Aggregation model also helps keep utility dollars in local circulation.

In addition, SOPEC supports the growth of renewable energy projects everywhere by purchasing 100% renewable energy supply through the procurement of Renewable Energy Credits.

SOPEC has made firm internal steps to purchase items made from post-consumer recycled content, to collect and compost their compostables, and to conserve office paper with best printing and reuse practices.

It is wonderful to welcome SOPEC into the Zero Waste Pledge program!
