The Asian Vegetable Workshop is among the workshops scheduled this summer.

The Plains, OH — Farmers, landowners, and community members can learn about everything from beekeeping to growing Asian vegetables this summer during upcoming workshops.

Rural Action will hold four educational workshops in July and August, several of which are free. Here’s a list:

  • Beekeeping with Varroa Mites: Varroa mite monitoring/management at Jackie O’s Teaching and Learning Apiary on July 12, 6-8 p.m., 4500 Angel Ridge Road in Athens.   • Building Your Brand with ACEnet Webinar: Affordable tips for launching brand identity for beginning or established farmers, artisans and producers on August 16th, 5:30-6:30 p..m. Free registration: www.eventbrite.com/e/367695425917
  • Midsummer Hive Check-In: Hands-on workshop at the teaching apiary at Chesterhill Produce Auction on hive management for summer, Aug. 3, 6-8 p.m., 8380 Wagoner Rd, Chesterhill. Free registration, email katie@ruralaction.org (This workshop is in partnership with Central State University.).
  • Asian Vegetables Workshop: Rural Action, the Athens Asian American Alliance, AAPI-LEAD, and Community Food Initiatives present a workshop on growing Asian vegetables. This hands-on workshop will be preceded by a tasting where you can learn about preparing these delicious and unique plants, Aug. 6, 4-6 p.m. Fee: $10. Starting at 1st Floor at Patton Hall, East Union Street in Athens and concluding at West Side Community Gardens, 400 West State Street in Athens. These workshops are open to all interested parties, but the information being presented will be most applicable to farmers and landowners. These workshops are intended to support beginning farmers by providing valuable content and networking opportunities, helping participants to improve growing practices, diversify income streams, and connect with other growers.
