For Immediate Release

Mineral City, Ohio — Rural Action will be hosting a virtual and in-person hybrid Watershed Camp for kids ages 8-12 in June. Children can learn about waste management, biodiversity and ecosystems, wetlands, and birds, all from their home while occasionally gathering in-person in Mineral City. Participants will get to make crafts, play games, and enjoy nature while learning about science. The blended camp will occur on June 14-18.

The four-day camp will provide children with information and activities daily, and feature materials, kits, snacks, and a scheduled virtual check-in time to make it a complete “camping” experience. And because of philanthropic support, all camp programs are free this year – there is no cost to participate.

Supply pickup will be on June 14. June 15 and June 17 (Tuesday and Thursday) will be entirely virtual, with optional, parent-guided activities set up in local public areas. June 16 and June 18 (Wednesday and Friday) will be virtual in the morning and in-person for the afternoon. The supply pickup and in-person afternoons will be at Mineral City Park, 8728 High St. NE, Mineral City, Ohio. Interested attendees should register at https://tinyurl.com/yedamah2. More event information and registration can also be found at the Rural Action website, www.ruralaction.org.

“Even though our camp will be different this year, we will ensure it is the same fun experience for everyone,” says Vicki Irr, AmeriCorps Member with the Rural Action Watershed Team. “It is important for kids to learn about nature at an early age because that curiosity will stay with them for a lifetime.”

The hands-on activities will vary but may include creating a bird feeder, making an upcycled collage, an endangered animal craft and a build-a-wetland activity. Guest speakers will join the program daily, along with fun and educational programming and a daily video to watch.
