Job Summary

The Staff Accountant works under the direction of the Finance Director to manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other financial tasks for the organization and oversees human resources/payroll administration under the umbrella of a professional employer organization (PEO) for Rural Action staff and AmeriCorps members.

Essential Functions

  • Manage semi-monthly accounts payable functions using the Financial Edge fund accounting system for the following:
    • Rural Action Inc.
    • AmeriCorps match reimbursements
    • staff reimbursements
    • AmeriCorps reimbursements
    • Chesterhill Produce Auction (weekly during season)
  • Oversee and coordinate the semi-monthly payroll:
    • Collect staff timesheets and supervisor approvals
    • submit timesheet data for payroll processing
    • create payroll reports from payroll system
    • create payroll journal entry for posting to the general ledger in Financial Edge
  • Oversee administrative processes related to Human Resources: payroll and benefits functions in coordination with our professional employer organization, with a focus on continuous improvement
    • Manage oversight and communication with PEO on Human Resources matters; unemployment; workers compensation; HR law and guidance;
    • Assist Program Directors in the posting, interviewing and hiring process of positions to be filled for Rural Action;
    • Assist CEO in writing/updating personnel policies and procedures as needed utilizing guidance and assistance of the PEO
    • Oversee onboarding of new staff (using the onboarding checklist) and AmeriCorps group (annually) to the online HR/Payroll system (Prism)
    • Provide annual oversight and review of staff fringe benefit and open enrollment in conjunction with the PEO
  • Assist Finance Director with Financial Edge accounting/maintenance tasks as needed
  • Assist the Finance Director as needed with invoicing for grants and contracts
  • Manage monthly collection, recording, payment and G/L posting of Rural Action business credit cards
  • Other duties as assigned
