Watershed Camps

Rural Action’s Sunday Creek Watershed, Monday Creek and Environmental Education program offer three summer day camps each year. Camp is a week of fun-filled adventure for children: exploring streams, engaging in service projects, learning about the environment through games, visiting with area professionals,and eating freshly prepared local food!

Sunday Creek Summer Camp

June 12th-16th, 2017| 9 am-4 pm | Trimble, Ohio | $75

Get ready for another year that gets you outside and gets you muddy. Our campers will explore some of our old stomping grounds such as Wildcat Hollow and Camp Oty’Okwa but we will also go in search of new places, finding new and exciting things no matter where we go. Campers will swim with crawdads in swimming holes, turn over rocks to find salamanders, and learn how to build different types of shelters such as the lean-to. Watershed Scientist Camp | Ages 11-14

June 27th-June 29th | 2017 | 9 am-4 pm | Trimble, Ohio | $75

Explore the careers and opportunities that come along with a job in the environmental field. This is a camp dedicated to getting outside and doing a little science on the way. Come along with us as we canoe down the Hocking River to explore what creatures and other animals live near the river. Each day we will explore what the environment has around us and how we can make that part of our future. Do you still want to attend camp? There is an opportunity for previous graduates to help lead our summer camp and take part in all the fun! Monday Creek

Watershed Camp | Ages 8-12

July 10th-14th, 2017| New Straitsville, Ohio | $50
Monday Creek Kids Camp for 8 – 12 year olds will feature field trips where campers will canoe, swim, learn fishing skills, explore the natural world by looking for critters and recording what they find with field journalism exercises and crafts, and get to tour the area’s treatment systems for Acid Mine Drainage (AMD). Throughout the week, we will also include favorite activities like catching macroinvertebrates (craw-dads and the like), wilderness survival skills, hiking, archery, swimming, and canoeing at Burr Oak.

Camp will meet at the shelter house in the New Straitsville Veterans Memorial Park from July 10th through the 14th. Pick up will be there as well. Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily and transportation will be provided for field trips.

A detailed schedule and more need-to-know information will be sent out closer to the date of the camp. Cost of camp is $50.00 per camper.
Once you register, you will receive a waiver that you must sign and return to Rural Action before the start of the camp.

Camp Watershed with Huff Run/Mud Run Watersheds

Watershed Camp | Ages 8-12

July 17th-21st, 2017| New Philadelphia, Ohio | $50

Join Rural Action for our fifth annual Camp Watershed! During this fun-filled day camp children ages 8-12 will tour natural areas throughout Tuscarawas County and the surrounding areas and learn about the outdoor world around them. Breakfast, lunch and healthy snacks will be provided daily and transportation is provided in partnership with Horizon’s, Inc. Contact the Huff Run/Mud Run Watersheds office at (330) 859-1050 to learn more about this opportunity or to register your child. Some financial assistance is available. The camp website and online registration is available online (TBD).

Contact marissa@ruralaction.org for more information. Camp will run July 17-21 from 8am-4:30pm. Pick up and drop off will be at Tuscora Park in New Philadelphia.
