MLK Day 2019: Volunteer with Rural Action AmeriCorps!

Thank you for your interest in serving with our AmeriCorps members on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 21st, 2019!

Each year, AmeriCorps members and community volunteers from around the nation take time to honor the spirit and the dreams of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Thanks to generous sponsorship from ServeOhio, Ohio Stream Restore Corps AmeriCorps members have organized a day full of reflection, eating in community, and service for the region. The day’s operations will be based in uptown Athens. We will start by participating in Alpha Phi Alpha’s MLK Day Silent March, which starts at Galbreath Chapel on OU’s College Green at 10:30 a.m. We will reconvene at UCM: Center for Spiritual Growth and Social Justice (18 N. College Street) at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and service projects. We’ll finish up at 2 p.m. and send our Social Justice Warriors proudly into the world. Service projects include:

  • Building Comfort Kits for kids in Perry County who are taken under the care of Children Services
  • Preparing art projects at PassionWorks Studio
  • Kindness Rocks: Crafting “stones of hope” with positive messages to place around the City of Athens
