    Join Tanner Filyaw of Rural Action, Chip Carroll of United Plant Savers, and Trey Scott of the Wayne National Forest for a workshop on the cultivation and conservation of three forest herbs: ginseng, goldenseal, and ramps. The workshop will cover the life cycles of these plants, planting and harvest methods and markets, as well as detail local conservation efforts being orchestrated by the Wayne National Forest and Rural Action.

  • Adventure Auction

    The Adventure Auction will take place at The *new* Lodge at Hocking College in Nelsonville, April 8th, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event will feature silent and live auctions with Shamrock Auction Service and features regional adventure-themed packages. Guests will be wined and dined with an array of heavy appetizers catered by Hocking College. All proceeds will support Rural Action whose mission it is to foster social, economic, and environmental justice in Appalachian Ohio.   • Birds in the Hills Festival

    Description:

    Join Rural Action and Camp Oty’Okwa for our family-friendly Birds in the Hills Festival April 14th-16th at Camp Oty’Okwa in the Hocking Hills. This two-day festival will feature activities for adults, families, and specifically for children. We welcome anyone with even a remote interest in birds, especially those who have never picked up a pair of binoculars. Meals, lodging, and camping are available Friday night- Sunday at Camp Oty’Okwa, which has over 300 acres of mature hemlock forest and nearly 800 acres of outdoor fun.

    Birds in the Hills Festival will feature field trips to Lake Hope State Park, Clear Creek Metro Park, Crane Hollow Preserve, and a Wayne National Forest wetland. We will also have naturalist-led hikes at Camp Oty’Okwa through hemlock forests that serve as a breeding ground for the black-throated green warbler and other forest-dependent songbirds. Participants can expect to see and hear up to 20 species of warblers, including the cerulean warbler, scarlet tanagers, yellow-billed cuckoos, and a plethora of other migratory songbirds. Festival attendees will also have the opportunity to build bird feeders, bird houses, and to take home bird-friendly plants to improve habitat at your home for birds.

    Join Rural Action at the Lake and Land Fest! This one-day celebration will engage a diverse audience in hands-on demonstrations, educational workshops, and family-friendly activities that reinforce the messages of natural resource conservation and outdoor recreation. The event will be a collaboration of efforts from local non-profits, MWCD, SWCD’s, ODNR, and more.

    Entrance to the event will be free with a valid Lake and Land voucher and the park’s normal rate without. We hope to see you on the beach for this year’s Lake and Land Fest.
