The Shawnee Mural is painted on two sides of a brick building, a restaurant at 103 W Main Street in Shawnee. It is based on drawings and poetry done by local school children, reflecting their memories and their visions for the future of the town. Muralist Geoff Schenkel was assisted by Kim Blosser, Shawnee youth and residents.

Sandra Sleight-Brennan recorded several interviews with Geoff and the Shawnee team. Along with more photos of the Shawnee mural, the interviews are archived as streaming audio (in RealAudio format) at the Community Murals Project on the Ohio University Telecommunications Department website.

John Winnenberg (Sunday Creek Associates), Candi Withem (Rural Action), and Cindy Yeager (Arts for All/Jitney) contributed essays on the Shawnee mural and community process, available in the publication Community Murals Handbook & Case Studies.
