AmeriCorps members commit to get things done for Appalachian Ohio

Nelsonville, Ohio – National Service members are joining ranks on October 7th to “swear in” for their year-long term of AmeriCorps service in Appalachian Ohio. AmeriCorps members from Rural Action’s Ohio Stream Restore Corps (OSRC), Ohio University HCOM’s COMCorps, and Ohio College Guides will come together for a day of service and ceremony in Nelsonville. AmeriCorps members, National Service alumni, legislators, and community members will gather at Robbins Crossing on the Hocking College campus to lift up and energize members for their year of service. This year, AmeriCorps is celebrating their 1 millionth member; speakers will share stories about being 1 of 1 million! Members of the press, alumni, and community members are invited to join in the ceremony at 11:00 a.m., followed by a bagged lunch and conversation with AmeriCorps members.

Ohio Stream Restore Corps mobilizes 26 AmeriCorps members in 19 Appalachian Ohio counties to grow watershed restoration work, environmental education, zero waste, heritage tourism and local economies, and healthy public land access. COMCorps’ 24 members strengthen communities and develop member leadership skills by planning and implementing activities that promote health, prevent disease and improve access to medical care. College Guides serve to ensure that students, especially underserved students – first generation college-going, low-income, and minority – get the information and knowledge they need and deserve to make educated decisions and plans for their future. Together, these AmeriCorps members are helping our region build on our own assets to make Appalachian Ohio cleaner, healthier, and happier every day.

Join Rural Action, COMCorps, and their AmeriCorps members on October 7th from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Robbins Crossing on the Hocking College campus.
