The Huff Run Watershed Restoration Partnership (HRWRP) was founded in 1996, with the goal of returning Huff Run to its original warm-water habitat. Since its inception, the HRWRP has brought $5.7 million into the watershed and completed ten acid mine drainage restoration projects. Many other partners have joined our efforts, including government agencies and other non-profits.

The Huff Run Watershed is located in Tuscarawas and Carroll Counties in eastern Ohio, encompassing about 14 square miles. Mineral City is the only incorporated town in the watershed, along with unincorporated towns like Morges and Lindentree also in the area. Since the 1850s, the area around Huff Run has been mined for coal, clay and limestone, which has created widespread contamination from acid mine damage (AMD) in recent decades due to pre-law mining practices. Additional pollution concerns within the Huff Run Watershed are illegal dumping, broken riparian corridors, raw sewage in the watershed, over-development of utility lines, and responsible agricultural practices.

However, our objectives can only be met with direct community support and involvement.
